PEP WILL SIGN NEW DEAL – GIVEN

Former Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United shot stopper Shay Given is certain that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will sign a new deal at  the club thus taking him beyond the summer of 2023 when his current deal will expire. Shay Given made 50 appearances for Manchester City at the start of the takeover at the club many years ago andthe Irishman has retained an interest in the club since he left their playing roster.

Manchester City have been dominant on the domestic scene since Pep Guardiola became their manager in 2016. The Spaniard struggled in his first season at the club before he stepped up to take control of affairs in English football. Guardiola won the Premier League title in his second season as the Manchester City manager and also managed to retain it despite the resistance from title rivals Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players lost the Premier League title to Liverpool during the 2019/20 season before it was reclaimed last season to make it three Premier League titles in four seasons.Guardiola and his players are bidding to retain the Premier League title this season, but they will need to fend off Liverpool to achieve their target.

Manchester City had a good lead over Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table earlier this year. The Citizens had an 11-point lead at the Premier League summit having played a game more than nearest challengers Liverpool. Guardiola and his players have dropped five points from their last five games in the Premier League thus paving the way for Liverpool to close the gap on them to six points with a game in hand.
