KELLEHER NEEDS LOAN MOVE – GIVEN

Young Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will hugely benefit from a loan move according to former Premier League shot stopper Shay Given. Retired Republic of Ireland star Shay Given is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League era.

Given played for the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester City and Aston Villa in the Premier League before he retired. He discussed Liverpool shot stopper Kelleher and his need for a loan move in an interview with Premier Sport. According to him, Irishman Kelleher needs to knock on the door of his manager over a loan move. Shay Given advised him to approach Liverpool manager JurgenKlopp over a loan move during this winter transfer window.

Kelleher, 23, is now established as the second choice goalkeeper at Liverpool behind undisputed first choice Alisson Becker and ahead of Spanish goalkeeper Adrian who’s now the third choice. Adrian was previously the second choice before Kelleher relegated him to third choice. First choice Alisson Becker is just 29 and he has many years left to play at the top. To this effect, Kelleher won’t be the first choice goalkeeper at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

In addition to being second choice at club level, Kelleher is also second choice to Gavin Bazunu in the Republic of Ireland senior national team setup. Bazunu is on loan at League One team Portsmouth from Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and he starts every game for the club. However, the same can’t be said about Kelleher who sits on the bench regularly at Liverpool.

Kelleher has been able to play two games in a row in all competitions after Brazil international Alisson Becker tested positive to Covid-19. He was in goal for the 2-2 draw at Chelsea in the league and the 4-1 home win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.
