NEWCASTLE: GIVEN LAUDS BRUNO GUIMARES IMPACT

Newcastle United legend Shay Given has lauded the impact of new signing Bruno Guimares at the club since he made the move from French giants Lyon during the winter transfer window. Shay Given praised the impact that the Brazilian midfielder has had on the Magpies since his move in January while he was on Premier League TV. According to him, Bruno Guimares is a fans favourite at Newcastle United in a matter of months when it took him 12 years to achieve the same status.

Retired Republic of Ireland shot stopper Shay Given spent the majority of his Premier League career at Newcastle United. He also featured for clubs such as Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Senior Newcastle United officials made a big transfer coup with the signing of Bruno Guimares from Lyon. It was a big transfer statement from the Magpies to sign a player who had been strongly linked with a move to North London giants Arsenal. The Magpies paid £33.3m for the Brazilian international plus £6.5m in add-ons thus making it a total of almost £40m.

Bruno Guimares began his Newcastle United career on the bench as manager Eddie Howe was reluctant to include him in his starting XI and break the midfield trio of compatriot Joelinton, JonjoShelvey and Joe Willock that was winning Premier League games for him. The Brazil international made his first Premier League start during the away game against Southampton and he was able to mark the occasion with the winning goal. He scored the winner in the second half on the way to a 2-1 win.

Since the Southampton game at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Bruno Guimares has scored four more goals in the Premier League in addition to propelling his team to the top half of the Premier League log. He scored twice in the 2-1 win at home to Leicester City last month and also scored twice in the 3-0 away win over bottom team Norwich City last month.
